Cleveland Heat Cable has inventory of both 6 watt per foot and 5 watt per foot heat cables.  Our 6 watt cables are available in up to 1,000’ spools and are generally used for commercial jobs. For residential application 5 watt cable has many advantages and is generally the more suitable cable to use ~ it will accomplish the goals necessary!  

• The dimensions of the cable are smaller which provides more flexibility and a lower profile on your roof.
• The flexibility makes it easier to install in a uniform manner ~ a concern we’ve heard over and over from our customers. They don’t want the cable to be unsightly or to be an eye-sore.
• The smaller dimensions make it less likely to get caught on or be damaged by screws when installing in downspouts. And less likely to cause any clogging in your gutters and downspouts.
• When using a 5 watt per foot cable as opposed to a 6 watt per foot cable you are using 17% less energy! Minimizing your electrical bills.

  As a general rule of thumb, the 6 watt cables are appropriate for commercial use ~ but you should always use professional discretion when choosing the right cable for the job.
